Finding True North: How the Table Re-Centers Our Cities
Have you ever felt like our culture has lost its magnetic north?
In a world of shifting ideologies, political polarisation, and competing voices, do you ever feel like our cities are compasses spinning wildly, unable to find a true direction?
As leaders and believers navigating this cultural moment, we often ask:
Where is the solid ground?
How do we help our communities find their way back to what is true?
The Answer is Found in Jesus at the Table
It is easy to view Communion as just a religious ritual or a moment of personal reflection. But the beautiful truth is that the Table is far more powerful than that. It is an act of allegiance.
We often think of 'allegiance' as a heavy, military word. But at the Table, allegiance looks like love responding to Love. It is the relief of laying down our burdens and saying, 'Jesus, You are the King of my heart, and I trust You to lead me.'
Therefore, when we gather to eat the bread and drink the cup, we are doing something revolutionary. We are publicly declaring that there is a higher authority, Jesus, than the chaos around us. To come to the Table is to say three radical things:
Jesus is King, not any political party or power.
Jesus defines good and evil, not the current culture or popular ideology.
Jesus is our provider, healer, and reconciler, not the systems of this world.
A Compass for the City
Think of it this way: If a city is like a compass that has lost its direction, the Table is the true north that realigns everything.
When we center our lives and ministries on the Lord’s Table, we provide a reference point for everything else. It realigns our families, guides our leaders, and speaks healing into our systems. A city begins to heal when its people submit to the right King.
Be encouraged today.
Every time you gather with others to break bread, you aren't just performing a ceremony. You are resetting the compass of your heart and your city, pointing everyone back to the One who holds it all together.
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
— 1 Corinthians 11:26
Call to Action:
READ: This week, take time to read 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 and meditate on where your own allegiance lies.
ACT: As you eat a meal today, pause to "reset your compass." Verbally invite Jesus to be the King of your table and surrender one specific anxiety about the future to Him, declaring His Lordship over your life.
SHARE: Share what you learn (or this Blog) with a friend or fellow leader who feels overwhelmed by the cultural chaos, and ask them: "What would happen if we stopped trying to fight the culture and started feeding it?"
